Siglap Secondary School is commemorating its 50th Anniversary with a 12.2 km relay run from its old premises in Cheviot Hill to its present site at 10, Pasir Ris Drive 10. The guest-of-honour for the event is the Chairman of the Siglapian Alumni, Mr Andrew Chan. It called for all ex-Siglapians to represent their decade and take part in the relay which symbolizes the journey of one of Singapore’s oldest co-educational secondary school from its rich illustrious past to a promising future. Ex-students from each decade starting from the 50’s carried the Siglap flag and passed a scroll.(containing a message from the past) to those in the next decade. The ex-students from the new millennium ended off the run by bringing the flag and scroll to the present site at 10 Pasir Ris Drive 10, where the rest of the school population awaits. The run flagged off at 7.30am at the old Cheviot Hill site where ex-Siglapians joined in a tour and relive old memories at the school. Registration started at 7am. At its present site at 10 Pasir Ris Drive 10, ex-Siglapians were presented with a vision of the new directions taken by their alma mater in the field of Art with the unveiling of the wall tiles in the school hall created by the pupils in the Special Arts Programme. The relay run was a metaphor of the school’s perseverance tampered with age-old wisdom and courage as it moves forward in trying times to a promising future. Siglap wants its alumni to help it forge ahead in the plethora of new challenges in the education arena. By running together, it hoped that the students of the last fifty years will find each other as well as what it means to be a Siglapian as they uncover the secret message in the scroll.
